Unable to allow the editing of networking components at this time

I’m currently running Windows 10 Tech Preview (10130) and noticed a problem today with a VPN connection.

All traffic was going via the VPN, even internet traffic. I know from experience that this is because I have to turn off the ‘use default gateway on remote network’ option within the IPV4 settings of the VPN Connection.

This would be easy with Windows 8.1 or earlier. However in Windows 10 (build 10130 at least) this appears to be broken, as I get this error message:

Unable to allow the editing of networking components at this time because they are currently modified elsewhere.

Even after a reboot I wasn’t able to access the settings.

However I found the fix:
Locate and edit this text file:

C:\Users\[YourUserName]\appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Pbk\rasphone.pbk

Look for the entries

IpPrioritizeRemote=1
and change to
IpPrioritizeRemote=0

then also look for

Ipv6PrioritizeRemote=1
and change to
Ipv6PrioritizeRemote=0

save and re-launch your vpn and the problem should be solved !

Enjoy Windows 10 !
