I don’t know about you, but I dislike the ‘Conversation View’ that some email systems are now using. In particular I’m referring to gmail and Outlook 2011 which use this view by default.
For one it makes marking my messages, as read, more difficult – I have to click once to go into the ‘conversation’ then I have to click again on the relevant message.
I’m a little weird about this I know – but I hate looking at my iPhone and seeing that, red, unread message counter against my mail icon – it just REALLY bothers me. So I have to go into the app and go through all my mail and mark it as read (even if i have read elsewhere on a different system). It just feel neater that way!
Plus I also find that the ‘Conversation View’ makes its easy to miss an email if it’s buried away amongst others
So I was delighted to read this morning on The Register that Google has finally accepted that this view is rubbish and are allowing users to turn it off!
Incidentally you can do the same thing in Outlook 2011 by clicking the ‘Arrange by:’ column heading in your Inbox and changing it to ‘Date Received’.Tags: Gmail, Outlook 2011
